and daughters danced together in a spirit of sisterhood.

Women belly danced in expression of joy, for weddings,
ceremonies and births. Commonly recognized by the
term "belly dance" in the USA, this dance has its
roots in the Middle East and North Africa. Belly Dance,
also referred to as Raqs Sharqi, Danse Oriental, and
Baladi, is interpreted and performed in many
different styles by women around the world.
